Moss provides the two best solutions to dispose of infectious medical waste at a municipal landfill on this planet. The first is our rotary kiln two stage combustion process that is mixed with the MSW fuel stream and loaded into the combustion chamber. As the rotary kiln rotates, the red bag infectious waste is opened and is exposed to heat and oxygen and as the waste is transferred through the chamber, the waste is fully combusted and all infectious waste is destroyed leaving only ash. As the flue gases leave the first stage of combustion and enter the secondary zone, the gases are ignited with air to reach operating temperature. Once the infectious waste has been exposed to over 2000° F in the secondary zone for a minimum of two seconds, the flue gas travels throughout the boiler and flue gas heat recovery and emission cleanup systems before exiting the stack. The waste ash is deemed sterile and can then be discharged from the combustion chamber and transported to the landfill or our used in other processes. This process completely destroys all infectious and pathological waste.

Our second method of medical waste treatment is our Eagleguard retort autoclave system. This steam sterilizer has been proven to be the most reliable sterilizer design for the disposal of medical red bag infectious waste in the industry. The steam supply for the autoclave can be supplied from the MSW boiler or can be supplied from a Moss supplied packaged boiler. After red bag infectious waste is loaded into the autoclave carts and loaded into the autoclave, the door is shut and steam pressurizes the chamber. Steam temperature inside the autoclave reaches 35 PSIG or approximately 280° F. The autoclave maintains this temperature for approximately 30 minutes or for whatever time is required to meet the local and/or State regulations. After the process is completed, the carts are removed from the chamber and can be shredded and used as fuel in the MSW boiler or can be sent directly to the landfill as the waste is already deemed non infectious. All required reporting of this waste is provided from our PLC control system. Moss provides complete medical waste autoclave systems that can include some or all of the following components: controls, stainless steel autoclave carts, shredders (single, dual and four shaft designs), cart tippers, cart dumpers, compactor / containers and regulated and non-regulated waste carts as part of a complete system.

Each system provides complete microbial kill of red bag hospital and laboratory waste.
